Ollie Kennedy and Tom (Ber) Coleman
Written for Foster & Allen (~1985)
BA3                                                           Unit 2                                               Intermediate Melodies

Those without an extensive background in music (which is most of us) may find the accurate playing of "triplets" in a new song a bit difficult.   However, if you know the tune really well, you'll probably end up playing them without even thinking about it.

Some may find it easier, at least initially, to use a "simpler" version, given on a later page (World, Ireland, Newer) of this tunes2play4fun.com site   ...  Then return to the "advanced" one when you feel ready.

Accordion Notation - Somewhat Advanced

Converted from from Kennedy & Coleman Music Sheet, and

        including their several “triplets” such as   .( 5*  5  4*)  &  :( 6  7*  7)
where three notes are uniformly spread over one or two beat intervals.

The Kennedy & Coleman original also includes an "accidental" in the chorus.
The versions below uses a simpler substitution for this accidental.
Accidentals are covered in detail early in the intermediate BA2 minicourse.

(Some performers repeat last line of chorus instrumentally)

Verse 2  - Can use the same tune as verse 1, though the phrase
"and I'm growing old" is played slightly differently by some groups.

Time from me passes on      and I'm grow-ing old,

A lifetime nearly gone,      I cannot unfold,  Nights dark and cold.

But warm is your hand in mine,      Feeble with ageless time,

The light of love still shines        After all these years.

Chorus

Verse 2

My  darling  come  to  me,  sit  you  down  easily,
And  rest  awhile  near  the  soft  firelight,  cold  as  the  night.
But  warm  is  my  heart  with pride,   Having  you  by  my  side.
You're  still  my  guiding  light   After  all  these  years.

Your  soft  assuring  ways,  The  rock  I  lean  on,
Saw  me through my  darkest days,  When  all hope had gone.
You're still the only one  I'll ever hold near.
And I love  you,  After  all  these  years.

Time from me passes on and I'm growing old,
A lifetime nearly gone, I cannot unfold,  Nights dark and cold.
But warm is your hand in mine,  Feeble with ageless time,

The light of love still shines  After all these years.
