Some folks play the first three (or four) verses of this gospel song in one key, then ramp it up to a "higher" key for the final verse. For example:
- On an Irish B-C or similar accordion, going from the outside B row to the corresponding buttons on the inside C row ramps it up by a semi-tone.
- If playing a G-C-F, or similar accordion, you can start low on the inside F row for the first verses, then play the final verse high on the outside G row, ramping it up by two semi-tones.
- On a G-C (or similar) accordion, you can start high on the outside G row and then move to the corresponding inside C row, thus ramping it up by a "fourth" (or five semi-tones).
- Alternately, On a G-C or similar accordion, you can start low on the inside C row and then move to the high outside G row, thus ramping it up by a "fifth" (or seven semi-tones).

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed. Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we’d first begun. |
