At one time, there were twelve days of Christmas, perhaps because there use to be 12 days from new Christmas day (on Gregorian calendar) to old Christmas day (on Julian calendar). Now there are at least six weeks of Christmas between American thanksgiving in November and old Christmas day in January, and there are lots of Christmas tunes to fill the airwaves and department stores during that time.
